{"id":5346,"date":"2012-01-27T09:07:56","date_gmt":"2012-01-27T16:07:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.crookedbough.com\/?p=5346"},"modified":"2012-01-27T09:07:56","modified_gmt":"2012-01-27T16:07:56","slug":"anti-discrimination-demonstration-in-east-saudi-arabia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crookedbough.com\/?p=5346","title":{"rendered":"Anti-Discrimination Demonstration in East Saudi Arabia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Anti-Discrimination Demo in East Saudi Arabia<\/strong><br \/>\nANBA &#8211; 27 January, 2012<\/p>\n<p>(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) &#8211; Saudis have held a demonstration against the ruling House of Saud in the east of the kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>Protesters in the island of Tarot took to the streets on Wednesday night and chanted \u201c[Crown Prince] Nayef, you are responsible for the killing of protesters,\u201d denouncing the regime&#8217;s brutal crackdown on pro-democracy rallies.<\/p>\n<p>The demonstrators also demanded the release of thousands of political prisoners, whom the ultraconservative kingdom is holding without charge or trial.<\/p>\n<p>The Saudi regime has recently stepped up its crackdown on the protesters, killing several and wounding many more of them.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, Saudi security forces opened fire on demonstrators in the Qatif region of Eastern Province, injuring many people.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the wounded are reportedly in critical condition. Nine protesters were also arrested during the attack.<\/p>\n<p>On January 12, regime forces killed 22-year-old protester, Essam Mohamed Abu Abdellah, and wounded three others in Awamiyah.<\/p>\n<p>Saudi Arabia&#8217;s east has been the scene of anti-government protests over the past months, with demonstrators demanding respect for human rights, implementation of reforms, realization of freedom of expression, and release of political prisoners.<\/p>\n<p>Anti-government protesters in the kingdom also want an end to economic and religious discrimination and the termination of the government&#8217;s March 2011-present involvement in brutal crackdown on pro-democracy protests in neighboring Bahrain.<\/p>\n<p>Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, a prominent Shia cleric in Saudi Arabia, has warned the kingdom against continuing the brutal crackdown in Eastern Province.<a href=\"http:\/\/abna.ir\/data.asp?lang=3&#038;id=293040\" target=\"_blank\"> &#8230;source<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"igit_tsb_button\" style=\"float: left; margin-right: 10px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/share?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.crookedbough.com%2F%3Fp%3D5346&amp;text=Anti-Discrimination+Demonstration+in+East+Saudi+Arabia&amp;count=horizontal&amp;via=\" style=\"\" class=\"twitter-share-button\">Tweet<\/a><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Anti-Discrimination Demo in East Saudi Arabia ANBA &#8211; 27 January, 2012 (Ahlul Bayt News Agency) &#8211; Saudis have held a demonstration against the ruling House of Saud in the east of the kingdom.
