{"id":4097,"date":"2011-12-02T20:06:29","date_gmt":"2011-12-03T03:06:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.crookedbough.com\/?p=4097"},"modified":"2011-12-02T20:06:29","modified_gmt":"2011-12-03T03:06:29","slug":"wikileaks-releases-documents-on-government-surveillance-tactics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crookedbough.com\/?p=4097","title":{"rendered":"WikiLeaks Releases Documents on Government Surveillance Tactics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>WikiLeaks Releases Documents on Government Surveillance Tactics<\/strong><br \/>\nFor an ongoing project called Spy files, hundreds of documents on dozens of governments and contractors have been released<br \/>\nby John Glaser, December 01, 2011<\/p>\n<p>WikiLeaks has released secret files shining light on the mass surveillance practices of dozens of governments and the corporate contractors that provide the technology.<\/p>\n<p>The whistle-blowing organization, according to a press release and a new \u201cSpy files\u201d section of the website, is \u201creleasing a database of hundreds of documents from as many as 160 intelligence contractors in the mass surveillance industry.\u201d This latest release \u2013 with the help of \u201cBugged Planet and Privacy International, as well as media organizations form six countries\u201d including the Washington Post in the U.S. \u2013 includes 287 documents, but the \u201cSpy files\u201d project will be ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the last ten years,\u201d reads the press release, \u201csystems for indiscriminate, mass surveillance have become the norm.\u201d Some national security contractors even \u201crecord the location of every mobile phone in a city, down to 50 meters.
