These young men were willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice rather than be branded criminals.  Criminals don&#8217;t starve themselves to death for their beliefs. Anyone with an ounce of sense and not blinded by hatred can see this. Ta ar la anois.<\/p>\n<p>The hunger strike of 1981 was one of, if not the most influential periods in the IRA&#8217;s long campaign to remove Britains&#8217; role from irish politics.
