{"id":19848,"date":"2014-02-22T10:01:47","date_gmt":"2014-02-22T17:01:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.crookedbough.com\/?p=19848"},"modified":"2014-02-22T10:01:47","modified_gmt":"2014-02-22T17:01:47","slug":"brutal-rights-abusing-saudi-regime-maintains-death-grip-on-freedom-in-qatif","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crookedbough.com\/?p=19848","title":{"rendered":"Brutal Rights Abusing Saudi Regime maintains Death Grip on Freedom in Qatif"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Saudi Forces Attack Protesters in Qatif Region<\/strong><br \/>\n22 February, 2014 &#8211; FARS<\/p>\n<p>TEHRAN (FNA)- Saudi security forces attacked anti-regime protesters in the Qatif region of Eastern Province.<\/p>\n<p>Security forces used live fire to break up anti-government protests in the town of Awamiyah on Friday, press tv reported.<\/p>\n<p>In reaction to the attack, protesters set fire to an armored police vehicle during the clashes.<\/p>\n<p>The move is considered as part of a fresh crackdown on anti-regime protests in Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n<p>On February 20, two anti-government activists were killed when regime forces supported by armed vehicles stormed a neighborhood in Awamiyah.<\/p>\n<p>One day earlier, a Saudi court sentenced seven people to jail terms of up to 20 years for taking part in protests in Qatif.<\/p>\n<p>Human rights groups have censured the verdicts and called on Saudi authorities to release the detainees.<\/p>\n<p>Activists say there are over 30,000 political prisoners in Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n<p>The men were also convicted of chanting slogans against the government as well as possession and making of petrol bombs and throwing them at the security forces.<\/p>\n<p>Eastern Province has been the scene of violent clashes between anti-regime protesters and Saudi forces for some three years.<\/p>\n<p>Riyadh has strictly banned any gatherings across the kingdom.
