{"id":17303,"date":"2013-05-06T11:27:26","date_gmt":"2013-05-06T17:27:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.crookedbough.com\/?p=17303"},"modified":"2013-05-06T11:31:19","modified_gmt":"2013-05-06T17:31:19","slug":"defunct-abusive-bahrain-regime-rejects-us-human-rights-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crookedbough.com\/?p=17303","title":{"rendered":"Defunct, Abusive, Bahrain regime, &#8220;rejects&#8221; US Human Rights Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Bahrain rejects US report on human rights<\/strong><br \/>\n29 April, 2013 &#8211; Bahrain Freedom Movement<\/p>\n<p>Bahrain refers to protesters who clash frequently with police forces in Shia villages as &#8220;terrorists&#8221;.  <\/p>\n<p>Authorities in Bahrain, which has been rocked by protests for two years, have voiced &#8220;dismay&#8221; over an assessment by the US State Department of the rights situation in the kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The report includes texts which are totally far from the truth, adopting a manner that fuels terror and terrorists targeting Bahrain&#8217;s national security,&#8221; state news agency BNA late on Wednesday quoted government spokeswoman Samira Rajab as saying.<\/p>\n<p>The strategic tiny kingdom of Bahrain, home to the US Fifth Fleet, has been hit since February 2011 by a wave of Shia-led protests calling for the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman al-Khalifa in office since 1971.<\/p>\n<p>A US State Department report released on April 19 said that &#8220;the most serious human rights problems included citizens&#8217; inability to change their government peacefully; arrest and detention of protesters on vague charges, in some cases leading to their torture in detention.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It criticised the &#8220;lack of due process in trials of political and human rights activists, medical personnel, teachers, and students, with some resulting in harsh sentences.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The report claimed that &#8220;discrimination on the basis of gender, religion, nationality, and sect persisted, especially against the Shia population&#8221; which makes up a majority in Bahrain, ruled by the Sunni Al-Khalifa dynasty.<\/p>\n<p>Rajab &#8220;deplored the report for lacking objectivity, totally siding with the terrorists who seek to sow chaos in the whole region.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Bahrain refers to protesters who clash frequently with police forces in Shia villages as &#8220;terrorists&#8221; it claims are backed by Shia-majority Iran.<\/p>\n<p>The kingdom &#8220;reiterated full commitment to comply with the human rights principles and standards in confronting terror which targets Bahrain and innocent civilians,&#8221; said Rajab.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vob.org\/en\/index.php?show=news&#038;action=article&#038;id=2234\" target=\"_blank\">&#8230;more<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"igit_tsb_button\" style=\"float: left; margin-right: 10px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/share?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.crookedbough.com%2F%3Fp%3D17303&amp;text=Defunct%2C+Abusive%2C+Bahrain+regime%2C+%22rejects%22+US+Human+Rights+Report&amp;count=horizontal&amp;via=\" style=\"\" class=\"twitter-share-button\">Tweet<\/a><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bahrain rejects US report on human rights 29 April, 2013 &#8211; Bahrain Freedom Movement Bahrain refers to protesters who clash frequently with police forces in Shia villages as &#8220;terrorists&#8221;.
