{"id":15195,"date":"2012-12-30T11:20:27","date_gmt":"2012-12-30T18:20:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.crookedbough.com\/?p=15195"},"modified":"2012-12-30T11:20:27","modified_gmt":"2012-12-30T18:20:27","slug":"eu-human-rights-delegations-calls-for-release-of-political-prisoners-in-bahrain-callously-ignored-by-regime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crookedbough.com\/?p=15195","title":{"rendered":"EU Human Rights Delegation&#8217;s calls for release of Political Prisoners in Bahrain callously ignored by regime"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Bahrain regime urged to free prisoners<\/strong><br \/>\n21 December, 2012 &#8211; PressTV<\/p>\n<p>The head of a European Parliament human rights delegation has called on the Bahraini regime to free political prisoners.<\/p>\n<p>During a Thursday visit to the Bahraini capital Manama, Inese Vaidere called on Bahraini officials to release all \u201cprisoners of conscience\u201d to soothe political tensions in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Vaidere further said the European delegation paid a visit to imprisoned opposition leaders, including Abdulhadi al-Khawaja, who has been sentenced to life in prison.<\/p>\n<p>The European team\u2019s visit to Bahrain comes nearly a week after the Bahraini prince called for dialogue with the opposition on December 5, saying only talks could solve the political unrest in Bahrain.<\/p>\n<p>The uprising in Bahrain began in mid-February 2011.<\/p>\n<p>The Manama regime promptly launched a brutal crackdown on peaceful protests and called in Saudi-led Arab forces from neighboring states.<\/p>\n<p>Dozens of people have lost their lives in the crackdown, and the security forces have arrested hundreds, including rights activists, doctors and nurses.<\/p>\n<p>Bahraini demonstrators say they will continue holding anti-regime protests until their demand for the establishment of a democratically elected government is met. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.presstv.ir\/detail\/2012\/12\/21\/279315\/bahrain-regime-urged-to-free-prisoners\/\" target=\"_blank\">&#8230;source<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"igit_tsb_button\" style=\"float: left; margin-right: 10px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/share?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.crookedbough.com%2F%3Fp%3D15195&amp;text=EU+Human+Rights+Delegation%27s+calls+for+release+of+Political+Prisoners+in+Bahrain+callously+ignored+by+regime&amp;count=horizontal&amp;via=\" style=\"\" class=\"twitter-share-button\">Tweet<\/a><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bahrain regime urged to free prisoners 21 December, 2012 &#8211; PressTV The head of a European Parliament human rights delegation has called on the Bahraini regime to free political prisoners.
