{"id":13181,"date":"2012-10-15T07:02:48","date_gmt":"2012-10-15T14:02:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.crookedbough.com\/?p=13181"},"modified":"2012-10-15T07:02:48","modified_gmt":"2012-10-15T14:02:48","slug":"bahrain-king-door-to-dialogue-open-while-prison-doors-remain-shut-on-opposition-leaders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crookedbough.com\/?p=13181","title":{"rendered":"Bahrain King &#8220;door to dialogue open&#8221; while prison doors remain shut on Opposition Leaders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Bahraini King says \u2018door for dialogue open\u2019<\/strong><br \/>\n15 October, 2012 &#8211;  Ya Libnana<\/p>\n<p>Bahrain\u2019s King Hamad bin Isa bin Salman Al-Khalifa said that the \u201cdoor for dialogue is open,\u201d when he addressed the new National Assembly on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Al-Khalifa said that the visions for a consensus on national dialogue represent a \u201cnational desire\u201d to start a new phase to understand what the country is going through, Al Arabiya TV reported him as saying.<\/p>\n<p>He added that these visions \u201chave led to new important constitutional amendments,\u201d that will cement democracy and consolidate transparency, human rights and freedom of expression.<\/p>\n<p>In May, the King has approved amendments to the country\u2019s constitution that give more power to the parliament by allowing it to have more control over government ministers.<\/p>\n<p>While the King hailed the armed forces and the defense ministry in \u201cprotecting the country,\u201d he said that the \u201ccouncil of Human Rights accepting a report by Bahrain is a confirmation of trust that the international community has in Bahrain,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>In September, the U.N. Human Rights Council accepted Bahrain\u2019s Universal Periodic Review (UPR). President of the U.N. Human Rights Council, Laura Dupuy Lasserre, hailed the Kingdom for providing voluntarily an interim report to the Council prior to the next UPR.<\/p>\n<p>Bahraini rulers have blamed foreign countries such as Iran for manipulating sectarian differences in the Gulf state.
