{"id":11432,"date":"2012-08-02T15:29:32","date_gmt":"2012-08-02T22:29:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.crookedbough.com\/?p=11432"},"modified":"2012-08-02T15:29:32","modified_gmt":"2012-08-02T22:29:32","slug":"oaxaca-protests-against-imposition-detentions-and-torture-sound-familar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crookedbough.com\/?p=11432","title":{"rendered":"Oaxaca: Protests against \u201cimposition,\u201d detentions, and torture &#8211; sound familar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Oaxaca: Protests against \u201cimposition,\u201d detentions, and torture<\/strong><br \/>\n23 July, 2012 &#8211; SIPAZ blog<\/p>\n<p>In observation of the mobilizations agreed upon at the \u201cNational Convention against Imposition\u201d on 14 and 15 July in San Salvador Atenco to protest Enrique Pe\u00f1a Nieto\u2013ones that were carried out on 22 July in several states of the country\u2013several protestors were arrested in Oaxaca de Ju\u00e1rez.  State police detained David Venegas, \u201cEl Alebrije,\u201d just before the end of the \u201cMarch against imposition\u201d organized by #IAm132.  Members of this movement sought to mobilize against this arrest, and for this reason they were beaten and subjected to tear gas, with 24 others being arrested, all of whom were released on 22 July, like David Venegas.  Human-rights organizations indicated, based on testimony received, that during the arrests there was psychological and physical torture as well as beatings, with some youth being subjected to electric shocks, in addition to death-threats and rape threats, sexual assault, and robbery.  It should be mentioned that the events occurred amidst the Guelaguetza festivities, this being the most important Oaxacan celebration, and two months previous to the \u201cSecond National Convention against Imposition,\u201d which is planned to be held in Oaxaca.<\/p>\n<p>In Le\u00f3n (Guanajuato), six members of the #IAm132 movement were similarly arrested during mobilizations \u201cagainst imposition\u201d on 22 July.
