{"id":11092,"date":"2012-07-24T07:35:13","date_gmt":"2012-07-24T14:35:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.crookedbough.com\/?p=11092"},"modified":"2012-07-24T07:35:13","modified_gmt":"2012-07-24T14:35:13","slug":"british-mercenaries-train-us-back-al-qaeda-in-syria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crookedbough.com\/?p=11092","title":{"rendered":"British Mercenaries Train US back Al Qaeda in Syria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Britain\u2019s ex-army commandos train armed rebels in Syria: UK media<\/strong><br \/>\n25 July, 2012 &#8211; Shia Post<\/p>\n<p>Britain\u2019s former Special Air Service (SAS) commandos are reportedly training armed opposition groups fighting against the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, reports say.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Mail and Sunday Express have revealed that the mercenaries have set up training camps in Iraq and on the Syrian border for the armed rebels.<\/p>\n<p>British army sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, have said the militants are receiving instructions in military tactics, weapons handling and communications systems.<\/p>\n<p>Groups of 50 militants at a time are being trained by two Mideast-based private security firms which employ former SAS personnel.<\/p>\n<p>More than 300 rebel forces have completed the commando training program, and are said to account for a number of the opposition\u2019s combatant units fighting Syrian security forces in Damascus.<\/p>\n<p>Britain has also placed more than 600 troops on standby over the unrest in Syria.<\/p>\n<p>UK Foreign Secretary William Hague says London should be acting outside the UN Security Council and step up its support for militant groups in Syria.<\/p>\n<p>Syria has been the scene of violence by armed groups since March 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Damascus blames \u201coutlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups\u201d for the unrest, asserting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.   <a href=\"http:\/\/en.shiapost.com\/?p=4846\" target=\"_blank\">&#8230;more<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"igit_tsb_button\" style=\"float: left; margin-right: 10px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/share?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.crookedbough.com%2F%3Fp%3D11092&amp;text=British+Mercenaries+Train+US+back+Al+Qaeda+in+Syria&amp;count=horizontal&amp;via=\" style=\"\" class=\"twitter-share-button\">Tweet<\/a><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Britain\u2019s ex-army commandos train armed rebels in Syria: UK media 25 July, 2012 &#8211; Shia Post Britain\u2019s former Special Air Service (SAS) commandos are reportedly training armed opposition groups fighting against the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, reports say.
