Iran says West supplying chemical agents to Bahrain<\/strong>

Iran accused the West of providing chemical warfare agents to the Bahraini government on Tuesday, and that authorities there have used them to quash anti-regime protests.<\/p>\n

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, deputy foreign minister for African and Arab affairs, told the official Iranian News Agency IRNA, “I am expressing Tehran’s concern over the use of lethal chemical gases by Bahraini authorities against the Bahraini people.”<\/p>\n

The Iranian official said unspecified Western nations were providing Manama with chemical choking agents, which has led to the death or injury of tens of citizens.<\/p>\n

The allegations come on the heels of a report by a British parliamentary committee on Friday that questioned whether British military exports to the island kingdom were being used for internal repression.<\/p>\n

The report did not mention exports of chemical choking agents, which are forbidden under international arms control agreements.<\/p>\n
