{"id":10147,"date":"2012-05-24T13:17:49","date_gmt":"2012-05-24T20:17:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.crookedbough.com\/?p=10147"},"modified":"2012-05-24T13:17:49","modified_gmt":"2012-05-24T20:17:49","slug":"zainab-al-khawaja-30-days-for-participating-in-anti-government-protest-one-wonders-the-jail-sentence-for-living-in-an-anti-government-society","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crookedbough.com\/?p=10147","title":{"rendered":"Zainab al-Khawaja, 30 days for participating in anti-government protest &#8211; one wonders the jail sentence for living in an anti-government society?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Bahrain jails activist Zainab al-Khawaja over protest<\/strong><br \/>\n24 March, 2102 &#8211; Shia Post<\/p>\n<p>The Bahraini regime has handed a one-month jail term to rights activist Zainab al-Khawaja for participating in an anti-government protest last month.<\/p>\n<p>A Bahraini court on Thursday announced the jail term for Khawaja, accusing her of \u201cusing force against a policewoman and insulting her as forces of order tried to disperse an unauthorized rally\u201d on April 21, Lebanon\u2019s Daily Star reported.<\/p>\n<p>Khawaja is also accused of obstructing traffic on the same day by blocking a main road in the capital, Manama.<\/p>\n<p>She was arrested one day before the Formula One Grand Prix in Manama while sitting peacefully in the middle of a main road leading to the Bahrain International Circuit.<\/p>\n<p>The female activist was demanding the cancellation of the race and an end to the Saudi-backed crackdown on popular protests.<\/p>\n<p>Zainab has been arrested several times for organizing protests demanding the release of her father, prominent activist Abdulhadi al-Khawaja, who has been on a hunger strike since February.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, a court adjourned to May 27 another case against Zainab al-Khawaja in which she is charged with holding a rally along with another woman in December in the middle of a roundabout on the flashpoint Budaiya Highway, outside Manama.<\/p>\n<p>Another court also fined her 200 dinars (USD 530) on Monday for insulting a police officer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.shiapost.com\/?p=2994\" target=\"_blank\">&#8230;more<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"igit_tsb_button\" style=\"float: left; margin-right: 10px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/share?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.crookedbough.com%2F%3Fp%3D10147&amp;text=Zainab+al-Khawaja%2C+30+days+for+participating+in+anti-government+protest+-+one+wonders+the+jail+sentence+for+living+in+an+anti-government+society%3F&amp;count=horizontal&amp;via=\" style=\"\" class=\"twitter-share-button\">Tweet<\/a><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bahrain jails activist Zainab al-Khawaja over protest 24 March, 2102 &#8211; Shia Post The Bahraini regime has handed a one-month jail term to rights activist Zainab al-Khawaja for participating in an anti-government protest last month.
