In an unprecedented tweet earlier in the week President Trump carried out the worst crime in the eyes of the establishment. He admitted the US went to war in Iraq and Afghanistan based on lies and that millions of lives and trillions of dollars were therefore wasted for no good reason other than lies. This is the worst crime imagineable -that is telling the truth about this for it exposes the reality of the system. The Democrats and others are not trying to impeach Trump because of some minor thing or another. It is because they don't trust him to continue running US imperialism as have done nearly all proceeding both Republican and Democrat presidents. They don't give a f**k about democracy since they were part and parcel of the lies and wars of aggression too.

The WSWS website have carried a report on this tweet and it is reproduced here in full because it gives good context to the event.

Press Release - Friends of the Irish Environment 10th Oct 2019
UK Nuclear plant ‘delaying transition to renewable energy’
£2.9 billion increase in cost since 2017 ‘sucking up’ funds from sustainable developments

The environmental charity Friends of the Irish Environment [FIE] have highlighted the rising cost and delays in construction of the new UK nuclear plant, Hinkley C, as ‘sucking up funds from sustainable developments’ and ‘delaying transition to renewable energy’.

FIE made a site visit last week to the nuclear construction site on the Severn Estuary in Somerset as a follow up to their complaint to the Espoo Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context which led to public consultation by the UK Government on the proposed plant being extended to the Irish Republic. Dear Friends

A general meeting of IMPERO will take place on Saturday 12 October 2019 at 14:00. Fr. Stephen Duffy PP, Lordship and Ravensdale, has kindly given permission to use the meeting room in our Lady of The Wayside Church, Jenkinstown, Co. Louth, for our meeting. We will meet there.

Agenda

1. Read minutes of the previous meeting
2. Confirm officer board for 2019/2020
3. Sean Crudden will read his thread on the UNDP (United Nations' Development Program) Global Development Hub. The recent on-line consultation was around the question of digitalisation and the sustainable development goals of the UN
4. Equality
5. Finances
6. Fix dates and venues for meetings for the next year
7. Strategy

Due to unavoidable circumstances the meeting scheduled for mid-June was let slide but, hopefully, this will not happen again. The meeting on the 12th is important for IMPERO. It is also taking place at a time of universal change. Is there any way technology can be turned to the advantage of the mental patient?

The meeting is open to everyone. But, if you are coming to the meeting, let us know beforehand so that we can make proper provision for all those attending.

Yours faithfully

Seán Crudden
Secretary

State faces further legal challenge to Shannon LNG terminal
Fracked gas as ‘Projects of Common Interest’ challenged

The State has been warned that it cannot approve the proposed Shannon LNG terminal as a ‘Project of Common Interest’ [PCI] without undergoing a Strategic Environmental Assessment [SEA] and a period of public consultation.

PCIs are key cross border infrastructure projects that link the energy systems of EU countries. They are intended to help the EU achieve its energy policy and the long-term decarbonisation of the economy in accordance with the Paris Agreement.

Former U.S. Marine Major Ken Mayers and former U.S. Army paratrooper Tarak Kauff This blog entry from 16th Sept on the ShannonWatch.org website is reproduced here because while it might seem old news one week late, it will in fact be news to a lot of people since the mainstream just don't cover this, certainly not from the side of peace perspective.

The following was written by Veteran for Peace activist Tarak Kauff who is currently being refused permission to leave Ireland. He is accused of minor offenses linked to the attempt he and Ken MAyers made to inspect a US contracted military plane at Shannon Airport.

Press Release - Friends of the Irish Environment 20th Sep 2019
In the High Court today, Justice Garrett Simons granted Friends of the Irish Environment's application for a judicial review striking down regulations made by Ministers Eoghan Murphy and Richard Bruton in January which exempted industrial peat extraction from the planning system and granted them a period of unlicensed operation in the EPA licensing system. The Court found that the regulations were in breach of EU environmental law and were outside the powers of the Ministers who made them.

piomas_ice_volume_anomaly_current_to_2014.pngA Strategy for Reducing Emissions, Pollution and Making Cities Liveable
The case is made for the provision of free public transport in every major town and city worldwide for a multitude of reasons. It has always been a good idea and should have been done a long time ago, but now with three major issues of our time; resource depletion, including oil, pollution and the climate crisis; they make it imperative that we move to such a system, both to conserve dwindling supplies of cheap energy, to reduce the use of vast mineral resources to make hundreds of millions of cars and to dramatically reduce our carbon emissions because climate change is happening faster than expected. The Earth's climate has turned out to be more sensitive and complex than anticipated as evidenced by the recent dramatic record breaking summer ice melts in the Arctic1 in 2007, 2008, 2012 and basically every year since then. With such a large change in the albedo or reflectivity over a huge area of the Arctic, this signifies the jump into positive feedback of the climate system, although it is not the only positive feedback. Combined with preliminary reports that frozen methane is beginning to be released from the Arctic sea floor and tundra and given that methane is 20 times more powerful as a greenhouse gas, it is clear we are probably at the point of things running out of control. Emissions need to be cut drastically, starting about 20 years ago.
