I believe Al Wefaq has no right to accept such offer without having a referendum, this is if they admit they are democratic and transparent, this is what they request from the government but they don't apply it on themselves. Who granted them the permission to go for this dialoge! I believe they don't represent the all opposition, ther is 14 Feb party and the leaders in prison they should be present for such dialog, I think al Wefaq didn't learn from it's old mistake, there is no time to be wasted for un ending and false dialogs, this revelation is like an specious very sophisticated car, it was stolen by theifs and they didn't know how to drive it, then they decided to so sell it as parts. I think alwefaq should protect this revolution by not entering into such arrangement specially it was called by Samira Rajab and the minister of justice whom they are totally rejected by all the opposition. They should request an official appointed mediator by the king to negotiate opening this dialog and not anyone from the existing minister whom their hands are spotted by our blood.
I hope al wefaq will realise these facts and will not spoil what we have gained because of our blood in the street.
I am not relating to any party, I am amongst the many silent people, but I want to see my kids future better not by accepting any offer but by defending my right even if it has cost me my life.

Saudi can't send troops to Libya becusae they have to:1. Cross through Egypt to do it2. Doing #1, means going through IsraelThey have no navy capable of sending troops across the red sea so hence 1 and 2. Ok these are the practical reasons. Now for my theories:You see, I think the whole middle east was stirred up (starting with Tunisia) due to secret CIA plot at request of our government (both parties, not just an Obama thing). Why you ask? Well oil was about to skyrocket in price due to all the money printing ($1.2Trillion in 2009/2010 and $600B planned so far in 2011) we have been doing to buy our own debt and soak up toxic securities from the books of the banks so what better way to conceal the real reason for price increase than to create some turmoil over there. The sheeple are more likely to accept price increases due to instability rather than government printing money. Now, we need to be careful however as it could backfire some of the countries truly could turn into democracies with free press and then their people will get to learn how we've been SCREWING THEM OVER for the past 30 years. So it is not in our best interest to see democracy flourish there and that's why you haven't seen much in the way of our intervention not in Iran when they had an uprising last year, not in Egypt, not in Libya. As for Bahrain and Saudi Arabia .we get much more oil from them than Libya we need those two nations to be tranquil . No doubt the Saudi's are doing our bidding. Why don't we push harder for democracy in Iran and help the people ther? Well, if Iran becomes a peaceful democracy, then Saudi Arabia has no reason to fear Iran, which means they have no reason to allow us to keep our troops there and they have no reason to keep the price of oil cheap for us. You see, oil is bought and sold all over the world using the American dollar. Sadam Hussein once suggested that perhaps it should also be bought and sold using the Euro pooof we all know what happened to him. Iran a few years back made same suggestion hmmmm..kinda funny we been itching to pick a fight with them ever since. And you wonder why Europe hasn't been so gung ho to help us in big ways in that region it's becusae they benefit if the Euro is used as the currency for buying/selling oil in the world market. You see, we're pretty much SCREWED if the day comes when oil can be bought/sold/traded in the world in a currency other than dollars. We get the Saudi;s to play along with only taking the dollar becusae they fear Iran and we tell them to do our bidding or we take our troops out well that little quid pro quo will come to an end if/when Iran becomes a peaceful democracy. You see, it is not in our interest for a peaceful middle east.

So, I've read through a few of your essays and have, on the overall, came to an essential conclusion, the Truman essay cementing it for me.

Now, I am not part of the UN biased thetoric you like to rail on about, so my view about the middle east is not sancioned by the US, fortunately for your interests.

My view being in a nutshell that the Middle East is a big problem, just like Japan was a big problem, when Japan chose to launch a cowardly surprise attack on Pearl Harbor.

Myself, I blame factions, if you will, of the Middle East for the Twin Towers which forever has changed the way Americans do anything anymore, especially airline travel. I'm sure many Americans feel (and rightly so) that their inalienable rights have been forever violated because of the TSA and other facets of The Department Of Homeland Security, who came into being because of what happened to us as a result of the Middle East legions and concurrent sympathizers (such as yourself).

Your essays go on to strongly infer that the US Government, itself, propagates what is now defined and indentified as Terrorism and unfairly attributes it to areas, organizations and peoples of The Middle East.

Now, I am not a politician (and you aren't either) but I can tell you most certainly that Al Queda is an abomination, that Osama Bin Laden did not suffer enough for what he has wrought, that many of your peoples of The Middle East were and are active sympathizers and maintain your vendetta against the US.

Now, regarding Harry Truman and his use of the Bomb. You can say what you want, and many have and do amidst the climate of this current state of gloom and pallor that Terrorism, wrought of your regions, of which your regions and sympathizers are in turn responsible for, and in many ways, just as responsible as the Terrorist organizations the Middle East region supports yet, indirectly and clandestinely.

I personally think now, and did then, that when the Twin Towers came down, that it was a cowardly act that was even worse than Pearl Harbor (since you had your essay rant against Harry Truman).

I often wish there has been a scenario where the US had retaliated immediately with deadly nuclear force against the Middle East regions deemed to be hiding Bin Laden and who were supporters and pro-active sympathizers of Al Queda.

You may say my views are driven by American propaganda. Fine, say what you want, but I assure you, if the US answered terrorist activities against us the way Harry Truman answered Japan for Pearl Harbor, that the personal day to day lives of Americans would not be infringed upon the way they are. As because of The Middle East and the united network of hatred against the United States, we now live with the fact that our day to day freedoms have been changed because of the need to "be vigilant" and protect ourselves against zealots.

I assure you, or anyone, that had the US immediately responded on 9/11 with deadly Nuclear force and made it clear that any further terrorist acts against the US would immediately be answered by the same deadly nuclear force, and in fact executed by an absolutely zero tolerance policy, that these terrorist groups would stop. They would stop because their countries would be annihilated off the map.

So when you talk about "the cowardice" of Harry Truman, others of us, yet today, would say he is a hero for ending the war and avenging Pearl Harbor to the degree that it would not happen again by that Nation.

I don't like it, you don't like it, and no one likes it, but I quite assure you, Americans are tired of being afraid of what insane people have propagated in terrorist acts.

The upheaval in Egypt against Americans caught there during the uprising that occurred and the associated rioting and attacks were concurrently, and once again, the actions of peoples who are so zealot driven that they are criminally insane by mine and many other's standards.

Dear Editor,
This is to point out that your headline, (“Bassiouni reforms charade comes to anti-climatic end in ‘liars circle’”) is misleading because it gives the impression that I was the one who stated what your editorial position states. I did not give an interview to your blog, nor are these words from me. I would appreciate a correction.
I have made no comments on the National Commission report and certainly none on the King’s response. I thank you I advance for making such a necessary correction.

I really enjoy reading your commentaries and want them to keep going, so here are some thoughts to keep the ball rolling. What about the connection between our astounding National debt ( Trillions of $$$ with many assets now owned overseas) ; a 700B taxpayer bailout - during a recession ( there is no doubt about it - we're already in it); and our National Security?? Is it a good idea to send to the rest of the world that...we're broke? I find it no coincidence that Russia and Venezuela are playing war games practically in our backyard. Shouldn't our foreign policy, (or lack of any) scare the pants off of every citizen vs. keeping our wealthiest - still wealthy??

randy, nice site! nice rant!

obama's in a tough spot there. will he sacrifice / has he sacrificed personal integrity in order to reach the presidency? is the larger objective worth it? the realist in me says he shouldn't have headed down this road thinking he could skate by the scrutiny he would be subject to - first from the clinton machine, then, having escaped that, the republican machine. surely, he's had time to figure that out.

"I am not a professional golfer but I know a small target can be hit consistently at short ranges."
I am not sure I agree with this. Most golfers can't hit a fairway that is more that 50 - 100 yds wide on a regular basis. I think that you are right when you say that actions like this haven't helped create any goodwill for the PGA or for golfers in general.
